Meet Katherine

Katherine M. Gipe brings years of experience with families and children to every case she handles. As former principal attorney of Gipe Holmes PC, she has operated as a small woman-owned firm since 2017. She is a creative negotiator, successful mediator and fierce advocate. Her experience in child-related issues brings particular insight and considerations to clients and courtrooms alike. Katherine has been peer- recognized for her negotiation skills and pro bono work.

Katherine’s extensive work in domestic relations began in 2009. Since then, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois (Chicago) - law school. She has served as an extern to the Chief Judge of Domestic Relations, Hon. Grace Dickler in Cook County, as well as assisting two other domestic relations judges in 2012-2013. Prior, she earned her place as an extern to seven domestic relations judges in Will County in 2011. Her courtroom experience includes four years of family law in private practice, and prior to that, representing clients and children with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services as an attorney and child representative. She has maintained focus on clients of all income brackets, and stands proud of her extensive work in public interest. Katherine was awarded an esteemed PILI Internship, as well as internships enabling her to represent clients in court with Cabrini Green Legal Aid and Chicago's Domestic Violence Legal Clinic. Before committing to family law, Katherine was a public educator in Kindergarten and private professional in early childhood, working with children ages three to six. She is a proud undergraduate of the University of Iowa, and returned to University of Illinois (Chicago) as an adjunct professor in 2016.

Her professional memberships and engagements include:  Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, American Bar Association, Mentorship Circles with Alliance for Women, and Family Law Divisions of each.  She serves on the Board of Directors for Between Friends, whose mission and dedication is prevent domestic violence and ending the cycle of abuse by equipping our communities with the tools necessary for everyone to feel safe and equal in their relationships. She was chosen to participate in Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence's exclusive year-long Leadership Academy Cohort. involved in anti-domestic violence movement, Katherine supports  early prevention efforts, education, and partner abuse interventions / efforts to rehabilitate those caught in the cycle of abuse. Outside of professional engagements, Katherine enjoys traveling anywhere with water or Anthony-Bourdain approved food.
